BLACK CAT
BLACK CAT
Her coat shimmers in the dark
and her large green eyes
peer through the night
for someone’s spying on her.
Then she sets off again
for ever swinging her slender
figure
across the empty road
Like to a secret crypt
an ancient boat --
her thin legs
carry her body high
at arms’ length
slowly
Sacredly.
Her tiny pads
skim over the asphalt
into forgetfulness
But morning comes back
hollering the wild race
of lorries and ambulances --
of those who drowned.
